It is of course easier said than done and often we can’t even know what is right or best for us, but we have to try it. As long as you have the presumption to do the right thing and to do the best for yourself, it’s usually that way. Even if it means to abandon a friendship that lasted for years for example. One should never forget to fight for the thing worth fighting for – when there is still hope. But if a friendship only harms you, then it is no longer the right thing. That’s what I’ve done two and a half years ago.
I abandoned a friendship after twelve years, a best friendship. And it was one of the best decisions I ever could have done. We should stop clinging to something which isn’t doing us well. Be it a friendship, a relationship, or something like that. Because in the end it’s all about you. Are you happy? Is it good for you? Is this what you always wanted and the way you imagined it? Of course, nothing is perfect and I as a perfectionist must also admit it (sometimes). But I don’t think I’d be the person I am today if I haven’t made this decision. Sometimes you just have to think of nothing but yourself and you never have to forget it.
